Skills for Future Learning

The time spent in Intermediate school (6th – 8th grade) is a formal, operational stage of development for children. During this stage, your child will develop skills to logically solve problems, understand different views, and make plans for the future.

Clear Creek Independent School District tailors learning to meet the needs of EACH child during this critical stage of development—each child has a seat at the table, each child has a voice, and each child has an opportunity to succeed.

Learning Based on Developmental Needs

Clear Creek ISD prioritizes the emotional and social needs of intermediate students by employing a workshop-model approach to learning, ensuring each child’s unique needs are met in a supportive environment. In addition to this personalized instruction, students have access to technology and dedicated counseling support, making our intermediate schools a place where every student can thrive. Explore how our engaging programs and services contribute to a well-rounded educational experience.

Elective Learning

In addition to the core curriculum, your child can choose from a variety of electives that connect learning to real-world applications. Options may include Journalism, Science Investigations, Teen Leadership, Culinary Arts, Environmental Education, and the ever-popular Robotics, available to all grade levels.

Through electives, students engage in hands-on experiences; for example, those in Audio/Visual classes run the on-campus announcements, while Career and Technical Education courses bridge connections to high school and career opportunities. Band, Choir, Orchestra, and Theatre provide comprehensive music and art education, fostering creativity through instrument performance and visual arts, along with history, performance, and evaluation skills.

Health Fitness and Athletics

Health Fitness empowers students with the knowledge and skills for lifelong physical activity, helping them embrace healthy, active lifestyles. Through movement-based activities, students build social skills, understand body function, and learn to measure and improve personal performance. They’re encouraged to find joy in physical activity and make choices that challenge them.

All sixth-grade students complete a full year of Health Fitness. Seventh and eighth graders must complete at least two semesters across these two years. For those interested in competitive sports, athletic classes in football, basketball, volleyball, track, tennis, cross-country, and golf are available. With coach approval, these students commit to additional practices and competitions outside of regular school hours.

Science Magnet Program

Since 1993, Clear Creek ISD has offered a Science Magnet program for students passionate about science, with two of the ten intermediate schools serving as dedicated Science Magnet campuses. This program combines traditional science instruction with student-selected electives, emphasizing real-world learning and family engagement through various activities. Applications are welcomed from all Clear Creek ISD students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, allowing approved students to attend a Science Magnet campus regardless of their home school zoning.

WAVE Magnet Program

For nearly thirty years, Clear Creek ISD has offered the WAVE (Webster Academy-Visions in Education) Gifted and Talented Magnet Program at two of our ten intermediate schools, catering to the unique needs of GT students. This application-based program allows gifted students to engage with their intellectual peers in a tailored learning environment. The curriculum includes mini-courses that emphasize student choice and real-world applications, with acceleration based on individual learning pace rather than grade level.
